Getting Busy

Art Show at Rio Rita

I just made the flyer for our show at Rio Rita It’s on the 11th of this month. I am very excited and also nervous. I still have to paint and draw a lot. There should be some free food and wine to be had but you have to bring the moneys- my paintings are made to bring colors to your wall and mind! I hope you can come.

Art Seen

So I have a group art show coming early this November at Rio Rita. Other artist joining me are my band mate Bill Jefferies, and Marisa Pool of Candy and the Cavities. The reception will be on November 11th, 2011. There should be some drinks and food provided, even some music maybe. It should be fun so come!

Halloween is just a few weeks away- I am dressing up as Andrew Warhola and not speak to anybody. It’s just so fitting I can only utter yes and no with the occasional that’s fabulous- I am such an introvert anyway when I am straight. I probably will not be in character the whole night- just the wig and striped shirt maybe.

In Betweeners

I just saw Repo Man on the big screen last night. Alamo Drafthouse showed it for their Music Monday movie event. It’s just so weird hearing those lines again. The humor is just fantastic- it’s just so Californian and suburban- it’s the very thing I’ve always hated and rebelled against. The way they portrayed the youth movement in the eighties, it seem so simplistic and straight forward but so true. It’s definitely a good movie to see again.

Vva Superstar and Andy WarholI’m reading this book by Victor Bockris, an  Andy Warhols biography. I’ve read many books on the Velvets and the New York music scene which in some ways touches on some of Andy’s life but this biography uncovers so many mystery and so many things that I have always been just haphazardly conscious about- especially about the actors, the films, and the drama that transpired  in the infamous Factory. It’s definitely intriguing. Warhol is madness crazy- he’s a genius!

Bockris also wrote:
Beat Punks, Transformer, Keith Richards Biography, Uptight: The Story of the Velvet Underground, Ali: Fighter, Poet, Prophet

lisa and alfie's art opening

I just finished some paintings and hung them at End of an Ear Records. We’re having an opening next Wednesday, the 17th of August. I’ll try to make another batch of Sangria- hopefully this time I’ll be more successful. The last batch I made was a little bland and so diluted that it did not have enough alcohol to get a you loose- I mean what’s the point. Anyway, it starts around 6pm and ends at 8pm, just enough for an elevator action.

I have not been productive for a couple of weeks but hopefully I’ll be a little more disciplined from here on. There are these storms that come and sometimes I am just overwhelmed by the occasion. It’s one of the best mirror I’ve seen- it is kinda sad but who isn’t.

This is the hottest summer to date and I have this wild idea to grow my hair. So weird but I have been swimming almost everyday I have not a game of Futbol to play. Sounds kinda backwards but that is the amount of time I want to spend during a day being physical. It’s actually way too much time but I do not really sleep much- a trait I probably inherited from my mom. She seldom sleeps either.

End of an Ear Art Show

I have an art show in two weeks. I started two paintings but I have not work on them for at least a couple of months. I am thinking a couple of design pieces and some portraits. I am in love with the familiar. Still thinking of a theme but maybe just randomly create it and see what comes out. I was thinking records- not as of music but like hospital records, Guinness Book of Records, things of that sort. Anyway, my friend, Lisa DiRocco, is also showing with me. Hopefully we can sell some things to support our habit of picture making.

Half way through the Summer- it has been pretty brutal here in central Texas. I am praying for a hurricane to hit the gulf just to have a better chance of getting some type of moisture. I mean this place is a desert. Every year I make the same assertion. I am actually use to this already but still see all the plants suffering.

Blank City at the Alamo

We just saw Blank City at the Alamo Drafthouse on Music Monday. Pretty cool clips from the No Wave movement- mostly focused on the film makers and the Cinema of Transgression. It features Amoes Poe, Nick Zedd, James Nares, Jim Jarmusch, Richard Kern, and many New York archetypes. Lydia Lunch is always great to see too- she has the best wit and probably the most naturally gifted artist.  This movie is directed by a french documentarian, Celine Danhier.

Still Learning

Not too bad. Still really lost how to control the style sheet. Mostly because there seem to be too much and I am not really sure which pertains to what module. I really want to cut the corner but I do not think I will be able to.

Welcome

This is my first time building a Word Press website. I usually just write it in html and css but I am not a programmer. Actually the opposite, I am a visual person, an artist and a creative being. I never liked the way all these CMS websites worked. It seems so modular, which it is, and seems the same from one to the other. I really hope I learn how to move these boxes soon. Hello You!
